Save NPR and PBS
From MoveOn.org " The House is threatening to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS, starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow" and other commercial-free children's shows. Sign our petition to Congress opposing these massive cuts to public broadcasting."
In this age of undue corporate influence, it is critical that we have journalism outlets that are more independent than their for-profit counterparts. The federal government's support for NPR and PBS is an important investment. This is especially the case for stations in rural or lower-income communities that rely more heavily on this support. Try and find a program as informative as Morning Edition in a commercial media outlet. Try and find a program as entertaining as Car Talk elsewhere.
My cynical side wouldn't be surprised if this is a political move against the perceived "liberal" media. Regardless, a CBS poll clearly show that a vast majority of people don't believe that public radio and television is biased.
